The arrival of November brings to mind many things. Flame-colored foliage, clocks “falling back,” a crowded Thanksgiving buffet, and epilepsy? In addition to being the last true
month of fall, November is also Epilepsy Awareness Month. And for those of you who watch the USA television network, you won’t be apt to forget- USA will be airing public service announcements about epilepsy nationwide in October and November to help prepare for National Epilepsy Awareness Month and the Get Seizure Smart! campaign. Thanks to USA’s support of the Epilepsy Foundation, their Characters Unite campaign will help raise awareness about epilepsy and the need to be seizure smart.
What better way to kick off Epilepsy Awareness month then making sure you’re seizure smart? Visit our website at www.efmarinhme.org and take our quiz to see just how much you know about epilepsy. That myth about people swallowing their tongues during a seizure? Turns out it’s just that, a myth. By separating fact from fiction, we can create a community that’s both well-informed and well-prepared.
Discuss with friends and family how to identify a seizure, and how to appropriately respond to one. Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder affecting all age groups, and your awareness could save a life. So take a minute to visit our Web site—seizures are unpredictable, but your reaction doesn’t have to be.
