The United States Congress has designated January as Cervical Health Awareness Month.
Community Health Charities works closely with member agency City of Hope, who is at the forefront of some of the nation’s most promising cervical cancer treatment and research programs.
Cervical cancer affects approximately 10,000 women in the United States each year and is the second most common type of cancer for women worldwide. Because it develops over time, it is also one of the most preventable types of cancer.
City of Hope’s comprehensive and aggressive approach to cervical cancer involves screening to facilitate early detection, vaccine and/or surgical prevention, surgical treatments (including minimally-invasive robotic surgery), advanced medical therapies (including intense-modulated-light radiotherapy) and investigational chemotherapy drugs, as well as supportive care.
