Millions of Americans just like you make New Year’s Resolutions, and research confirms that setting a resolution can help get you closer to your goals. One study found that 46 percent of individuals who made resolutions were successful, compared to four percent who wanted to achieve a certain goal and considered it but didn’t actually create a resolution.
Here are some tips for renewing your resolution:
- Rework your original goal. Write down your original goal. Is it specific? Can you measure your progress? Is it doable? What can you do to make it more realistic?
- Re-examine your original plan. Write down your original plan to meet your goal. If you didn't have a plan, make one. Now, look at your plan and ask yourself where you went wrong. Be honest.
- Stop kicking yourself. Shame and guilt can undermine our best intentions. Imagine what you would say to a friend in the same situation. Treat yourself with the same respect and remember that more often than not, failure is a part of success.
- Get help. Most people have trouble reaching their goals without some help. If you've been going it alone, is there someone you can reach out to for help and support?
- Think small. Eating healthy and being more active is about the small choices you make. All of these small, daily choices are what determine your success. [Source:]
